Chronicle awarded at ICPA

On Saturday. six Chronicle editors attended the annual Illinois College Press Association luncheon and awards ceremony.

Co-Editors Jenna Markowski, ’12, and Linday Berghuis, ’12; Shaina Turner, ’12, assistant campus and assistant forum editor; Amber Dvorak, ’13, news editor; Kim Ippolito, ’13, sports editor; Klariza Alvaran, ’13, web editor; and faculty adviser Philip Glende all participated at the event, which took place at the Double Tree Hotel in Chicago.

While at the event, editors attended workshops on editorial and news writing as well as how to get a job or internship in journalism.

The workshops were followed by a lunch and awards ceremony where The Chronicle took home three awards.

Britni Roberts, ’13, was awarded second place in headline writing; Ippolito and Jared Shlensky, thrid place in sports page design; and Rebecca Creamer, ’12, forum editor, received an honorable mention in the columns category.

“All of our hard work paid off and it was great to see it get recognized. I really loved hearing our names get called and know that we were representing North Central in the best way,” Ippolito said.

“The staff as a whole is excited for its recognition and hopes to continue improving both content and design,” said Markowski.
